How perfectionism is ruining my chances of accomplishing anything

How perfectionism is ruining my chances of accomplishing anything

I've realized (not recently, but it keeps hitting me on the head often) that perfectionism is number 1 reason why my projects don't get done. When I want to make a project 100% on my own terms and the way I imagined it, and I realize it's not possible for me at this moment, I choose not to do it. I postpone it for some future time when I'll have all the resources I need to do this project properly. I just wanted to share this because I'm probably not the only one to feel this way. And because I'm trying to break the annoying myth of "Nela has everything figured out" that I just can't live up to. Read more...

Sketching in the museum — a new adventure!

Sketching in the museum — a new adventure!

I've been planning to go sketch in a museum for a very long time. But I always had something 'more important' to do, and I was so very 'busy'... As I was going through my to-do list for this year, a bullet point "draw in a museum" caught my attention. And I said to myself, 'Tomorrow it shall be. I'm going on an artist date in a museum.' Why I still start all my design work on paper

Why I still start all my design work on paper

I don't work all analogue of course - all my final design work is a digital creation. However in the beginning stages - logo brainstorming, website wireframes, illustration sketches, poster compositions - I prefer to work on paper. If you're wondering why I decided against getting a tablet PC at the moment, here are my reasons, accompanied by some rough behind-the-scenes sketches. Read more...

Some of these are also great content marketing ideas for creatives that I have personally found to work very well. Read more...

Komfor band hand lettered logo design process

Komfor band hand lettered logo design process

Komfor is a band that plays mostly acoustic, ambiental music. Their music is very authentic, and nature is an important influence in their music and texts. These are all the qualities I wanted the logo to portray in appearance, but also in execution, so I decided to make a hand-lettered logo using traditional tools. See my entire process from sketch to finish! Read more...

Mind Patterns - The Sketchbook Project 2013

Mind Patterns - The Sketchbook Project 2013

I've participated in this year's Sketchbook Project. My sketchbook title is 'Mind Patterns'. I decided to portray thought patterns and emotions on female portraits, using hair as a visual extension of the mind. Beside the image, this post also features a video of my sketchbook flip and my commentary. Read more...

2012 review and plans for 2013

I know, it's so tacky to write about this subject at this time of year. I usually make my review and planning around my birthday, and this October I still didn't have a blog. And it sucked, because I didn't like the review. Actually, not having my new website or blog done by my birthday is precisely what frustrated me so much, and pushed me to finally make it happen.
