20 Things You Might Not Know About Me

This blog post is a part of the ’20 Things You Might Not Know About Me’ Blog Tag started by April from Blacksburg Belle. She began this blog tag experiment to build community among creatives, help us bloggers to connect more and get to know each other better. This month’s topic is all about sharing just a little too much information about yourself. If you’d like to participate or want more info, check out the beginning post right here.

So, the lovely Richelle The Red Scorpio tagged me over a month ago (or was it 2 months ago?), but I was so crazy busy and I already had a plan of other things to post, so I kept postponing it.

I’m not a fan of overly personal posts because I presume that wouldn’t be interesting to most of you, but honestly — that’s just my assumption, I don’t know whether you’d like it or not! So I decided to do it and see how it goes :)

On to the questions!

1. How tall are you?

164 centimeters, or for you people using feet and thumbs to measure things, 5′ 4.5”.

2. Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?

A long, long time ago I was into music — I played the piano in school and sang in a choir. In the recent years my only contact with music making has been the karaoke, and I haven’t touched the piano for over a decade.

I wasn’t really crazy talented, but I think I could make a decent singer if I trained my voice.

3. What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

Newsletter subscription pop-ups that appear before I’ve even gotten to read the post. But OK, it’s not that hard to just click on “X”. Or is it?

What truly irritates me every single time is when the said pop-up shows up on my mobile phone, but the “X” is outside of my viewport and I can’t zoom out to see it. Then I just leave the site.

(If you have pop-ups on your blog, for the love of everything that is holy, please TEST the damn thing on a phone!)

// rant over

4. What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

Slow and inefficient Croatian bureaucracy.

(I’ve been dealing with it a lot in the past few weeks so I’m under impression. On another occasion I might complain about something else entirely, like mosquitoes.)

5. What’s your favorite song?

“Echoes” by Pink Floyd. It’s 23 minutes long. I’ll wait.

6. What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?

I don’t hang out on Etsy, but I’ll plug my friend’s webshop (which I designed, *cough cough*) because she makes amazing handmade crystal jewelry, and I own a few of her pieces. That says a lot, because I make my own jewelry, so I don’t have a habit of buying stuff from other people.

7. What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Drawing, painting, writing, reading books and graphic novels, meditating, daydreaming, making handmade crafts, walking around the woods…

Or was that supposed to be just one favorite way? Sorry, no can do, I’m a multi-passionate.

8. What’s your favorite junk food?

Pizza.

Specifically, pizza with salmon, arugula and cherry tomatoes, and a veggie version of it (just arugula and cherry tomatoes).

9. Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

We don’t have a pet at the time.

When I lived with my parents, my pet was a big tabby named Felix. Since I’ve moved out a few years ago he grew very distant towards me, which is just how cats work I suppose. (But I still wouldn’t trade for a dog.)

10. What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?

I normally adore sci-fi and fantasy, but my favorite novel has been “Forrest Gump” by Winston Groom since I’ve first read it when I was 12.

It’s hard to pick a favorite non-fiction book. Actually, I feel really bad that I don’t read as much as I’d want to, so I bet that my favorite non-fiction book is the one I yet have to read.

But for now, I’ll say it’s “Prometheus Rising” by Robert Anton Wilson because it’s one of those books that doesn’t just change your way of looking at the world — it changes your way of thinking about thinking about your way of looking at the world.

Indeed.

11. What’s your favorite beauty product?

Wax strips.

You see, Frida Kahlo and I have something in common, beyond our love for dark emotional art and self-portraits.

I naturally have a unibrow too, but unlike her, I don’t really like that feature.
And plucking them one by one is torture.

12. When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

I had to take care of some paperwork for our festival, and a police officer chastised me for coming into his office 3 minutes after his shift ended. I was really uncomfortable and honestly sorry that I’m making someone work past their working hours.

After that he started laughing and told me he didn’t really mean it… I hate when people mess with me like that.

13. If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Weißbier.

14. What’s your favorite movie?

The Pan’s Labyrinth.

15. What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

A nerdy metalhead. Me and my 3 best friends were the resident weirdos, each with out own quirks.

16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Sadly, I haven’t even seen enough of the world to be able to decide. I’m not even fantasizing about going abroad. I’d love to travel, but I’m not sure I’d ever really want to move.

But if I really had to pick a country, I’m intrigued by Iceland. From down here, it seems like a magical land where people still believe in fairies and eat a lot of fish, but my impression may have been skewed by Scandiavia and the World webcomic.

(Also I recently found out about this.)

17. PC or Mac?

PC.

(I know “all designers use a Mac”, but owning one is not a financial priority for me right now.)

18. Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

Had I written this a week ago, I wouldn’t know what to answer. We don’t do much in terms of romantic gestures in this household.

But, a few days ago I had cramps and was really whiny, so I requested a back massage, foot massage, a bowl of ice-cream in bed, and later a sandwich in bed.
Initially he insisted on the no-food-in-bed rule, but he brought it all anyway. It really made my day.

19. Favorite celebrity?

Hmm. Jon Stewart?

20. What blogger do you secretly want be best friends with?

Naomi Dunford. I almost fainted when she followed me back on Twitter.

Tadaaaa, done!

Are you in?

I don’t want to force anyone to do anything, but if you feel called to answer these questions on your blog, consider yourselves tagged!

There’s a few of you whose blog I read and you come up here sort of regularly. I’d be really interested in learning more about you.

P. S.

I’m revealing a new month-long art project this Saturday, on November 1st!

  1. Yes! I love a more personal post. I like to get to know the bloggers I follow better and I adore a random fact. And i agree…who could choose just one favourite pastime??! X

  2. Oh I missed this! Fun! I would’ve done it if I’d known. I love hearing about people’s little quirks and day to day life. Details fascinate me. And you make me laugh. :)

  3. Hey Tara, this doesn’t have an expiry date, just so you know ;) If you decide to do it, I’ll go back and add a link to your post inside mine.

Thanks, I’m glad to hear that hehe – never really considered myself funny, I suppose I was surrounded by the wrong people :)

I too like details when it comes to other people, but when it comes to my life, I think “who would even care?”

  4. I enjoyed reading your answers and learning more about you! Totally random, but I love the banner you made for the post!

Pan’s Labyrinth is one of my favourite movies too! I can re-watch it a million times and still enjoy it.

Your friend’s Etsy shop looks awesome! Thanks for sharing it.

I had no idea Forrest Gump was based from a novel! Is it any different from the movie?

  5. Julia, thanks! :D
Glad you like the post banner, it took me some time to make it :)

Yes actually, the book Forrest Gump is quite different, they threw out some things and added others to maintain the Hollywood appeal :)
For example, Jenny is alive in the book. And Forrest goes on a space mission, which is hilarious.
    I recommend it :)
